The Museum of Innocence

READERS' REVIEWS OF THE BOOK BY ORHAN PAMUK

Reviews

The Book came to an end and so did a great absorbing companion. I spent nights in my garden with my Spanish 'Raki' and my light cigar. As the book approached its inevitable end I slowed the tempo. Was it laziness, tiredness or mere lack of time? No I discovered it was simply a melancholic feeling of already pre-empting a missing my friend, The Museum Of Innocence, of missing my companion for these weeks... of missing Fusun!!! maybe...

This extraordinary novel expands in one's mind for days after finishing it... It is not just a love story, but a story about how we choose to live our lives, a story about a country and culture in transition, and the conflicting gender roles that rupture relationships within such transitions. The beloved woman kills herself because no man in her life will give her the space to live a life of her own. Sad, beautiful, and pretty darn believable--and none of the men are unsympathetic!

A classic.

Its my first encounter with the author, grabbing the book in haste at a German airport in between flights. I always search for quality with History and a Good story as a must. I am living the Museum of Innocence. I am in their lives and I am in their homes. Heart wrenching at times but wonderfully written with tremendous human insight and undertstanding. Slow and penetrating.
